Bill Murray has responded to the behavior complaint against him that occurred on the set of Being Mortal and halted production. Being Mortal was a dramedy film that was set to be the directorial debut of American actor and comedian Aziz Ansari. The film is based on the nonfiction book Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End by American surgeon Atul Gawande. The book explores hospice and end-life care and provides a discussion on how healthcare workers can improve the lives of those nearing the end of life. It was unclear the exact details of Being Mortal's plot or how it was going to adapt Gawande's work.
In addition to having Ansari set to direct and write the film, Ansari, Murray, and Seth Rogen were set to star in the film. Production on Being Mortal began on March 28 and was halfway through filming when production was abruptly halted. It was later reported that production had been halted due to Murray's on-set behavior. A complaint was made against Murray for inappropriate behavior and was serious enough to spark an investigation. Production on Being Mortal was officially suspended, and it remains to be seen if it will resume or not.
