Taco Bell is producing a new musical inspired by the forthcoming return of its Mexican Pizza offering, and music legend Dolly Parton has signed on to work on it. The «9 to 5» singer who was recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced the partnership on Instagram.
The show is «based on the true story of the internet losing its mind» and will premiere on TikTok May 26.
Taco Bell said in a statement that it will be a «satirical musical» about the «harrowing story of those who fought to bring back the Mexican Pizza,» according to The Los Angeles Times. The show will feature «notable moments» from singer Doja Cat's campaign to bring back the Mexican Pizza.
Doja Cat campaigned to bring back the Mexican Pizza during a performance at Coachella recently, and she even wrote a jingle that was swiftly made fun of. You can watch her perform the jingle below.
The Mexican Pizza was discontinued in November 2020 as part of the fast food giant's effort to streamline its menu. A Change.org petition to bring it back amassed more than 170,000 signatures.
Hannah Friedman, who wrote Disney+'s upcoming TV series Obi-Wan Kenobi, wrote the Taco Bell Mexican Pizza musical with TikTokers Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, both of whom have won Grammy Awards.
Taco Bell's Mexican Pizza consists of two flour shells, layered with beans, pizza sauce, beef, tomatoes, and melted cheese; it costs $4.50 and arrives in stores on May 19.
