Freeform's successful series Cruel Summer will feature a brand-new cast and new mystery in season 2. The thrilling season 1 followed Kate Wallis and Jeanette Turner, played by Olivia Holt and Chiara Aurelia respectively, as the two young women fought for their own voices to be heard about Kate's traumatic disappearance. Cruel Summerbecame Freeform's most-watched show ever after premiering in 2021, earning the program a quick renewal from the network.
What's to come in season 2 has been kept a mystery, until now. As production begins, THR reports an entirely new cast will lead the upcoming episodes, as the show takes on an anthology format. New cast members include Sadie Stanley (The Goldbergs), Griffin Gluck (Locke & Key), Sean Blakemore (The Quad), Paul Adelstein (True Story), Lisa Yamada (All American), KaDee Strickland (Private Practice), and Eloise Payet, in one of her first roles. Additionally, Elle Triedman has taken over the showrunner position from Tia Napolitano, though Napolitano will remain an executive producer.

Moving to the Pacific Northwest, Cruel Summer season 2 will follow three different timelines set in the Y2K era. An innocent love triangle unfolds between teenagers Megan, Isabella, and Luke, and a flame that starts small turns into a fire that changes their lives. Stanley, Payet, and Gluck will bring the three protagonists to life. Strickland takes on the role of Megan's mother, Debbie, as Adelstein portrays Luke's father, Steve. Yamada will play Parker, a popular musician, and Blakemore assumes the role of Sheriff Myer. Cruel Summer season 2 has yet to receive a premiere date.
