CES 2025 has kicked off, and Gunnar Optiks announced a bevy of glasses coming soon, including a spectacular-looking World of Warcraft frame collaboration with Blizzard.
One of the cooler announcements Gunnar made for CES was its new Venture line, which uses electrochromatic glass lenses to shift to tinted glass.
While transition lenses are nothing new, this is pretty instantaneous and effectively allows for Gunnar glasses with both blue light protection during the hours you're staring at a screen, as well as eye protection while outside and on the go, all with the swipe of a finger along the glasses frame. The new glasses will set you back about $249 later this year, so we'll have to wait a bit, but it is certainly worth looking at if you're in the market for some new, albeit interesting, frames.
Gunnar Optiks is likely best known for being a brand that is used by, and beloved by gamers. Like last year's Fallout collaboration, Gunnar is working with even more companies in 2025 and beyond, such as Activision Blizzard to bring Call of Duty, Overwatch 2 and World of Warcraft-themed frames to the market. While we'll see Overwatch frames modeled after Reaper's mask start to trickle out next month, World of Warcraft's frames really captured my attention when Gunnar showed them in a pre-brief ahead of CES.
Based on the character Sylvanas Windrunner (who did nothing wrong, I'll add), the Pantone frames are designed with a colorway based off of the character's iconic cloak, while the glasses will come with its own polishing cloth and case, both with Sylvanas iconography.
Gunnar is also launching a few new frame styles, such as the incredibly modern-looking Loop and Dume frames, and they are also bringing a line targeted at women looking to finally wear their Gunnar frames away from their PCs. The Kista line brings stylish frames in a few color ways and designs, bringing more options for every day use, not just when protecting your eyes from blue light strain.
