Retro-themed comedy-centric RPGs aren’t really much of a thing, but Castle of the Underdogs: Episode One looks like a lot of fun. The visual style is definitely going for a 32-bit style, with a PS1-ish appearance that almost makes it look like a fantasy RPG version of Mega Man Legends.
The game blends absurd scenarios with RPG norms like trying to claim a castle and then fighting your way through it. NPCs will help you and join your party with requests like getting them new trousers and enemies can go down quickly to team-based attacks while other attacks result in foes being sent into one another and taken out that way. For a fairly low price, it looks to offer a good amount of goofy fun. The first episode is available now on Steam and the Switch eShop for $7.99 – a discount from $9.99.
