In Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #1, the first issue of Rogers’ new series, the star-spangled man with a plan gives readers a look at a new purpose for the shield. Steve Rogers attempted to enlist in World War II before being rejected due to his failure to meet certain physical requirements. After being given a Super-Soldier Serum, Rogers gained incredible strength and stamina, making him an integral part of the Allied war effort as Captain America. Rogers was selected to receive the combination of the serum and vita-rays needed to give him super-strength and agility due to his strong heart and unwavering heroism. As Captain America, Rogers wears a scale-covered costume designed with an American flag motif, wielding nearly indestructible shield forged from a vibranium-steel alloy. Currently, Rogers is one of two active Captains America, with Sam Wilson headlining the series Captain America: Symbol of Truth, by Tochi Onyebuchi and R.B. Silva,concurrent with Sentinel of Liberty’s run.
