Chris Evans opens up about leaving his Marvel Cinematic Universe role as Captain America behind and how it has changed him physically. The American actor made his debut as the skinny kid from Brooklyn, Steve Rogers, in 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger, which chronicled the character's transformation into the titular super-soldier via an experimental serum. Evans returned to his career-defining role for two sequels, 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier and 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, along with appearing in all four Avengers movies.
Evans' most recent MCU appearance came in Avengers: Endgame which, during its final moments, saw Old Steve Rogers pass his vibranium shield onto Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), effectively passing the baton onto the Captain America of the future. The subsequent Disney+ series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, finds Sam struggling with the idea of taking on the mantle of Captain America before he eventually embraces it and takes up the shield by the end of the series. Meanwhile, there has been rampant speculation and rumors about Evans' return as Captain America in the MCU, although many signs point to him having hung up his shield for good.
