The Cloverfield Paradox helmer Julius Onah has been tapped to directCaptain America 4 for Marvel Studios. The developing MCU flick will be first solo feature for Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson since he first accepted the Captain America mantle in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
While the Captain America title was handed to Sam Wilson by Steve Rogers at the end ofAvengers: Endgame, Wilson initally had trouble accepting the role. It wasn't until the end of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier that Wilson accepted the Captain America title, despite his reservations and awareness of the prejudice he would face as a Black man taking up the shield.

Now, The Hollywood Reporter has learned Captain America 4 is moving foward with Onah in the director's chair. In addition to helming The Cloverfield Paradox, the Nigerian-American filmmaker's directing resume includes The Girl Is in Trouble and the well-received Luce, which starred Naomi Watts and Octavia Spencer. As previously reported, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier creator and head writerMalcolm Spellman will pen the screenplay for Captain America 4 alongside Dalan Musson, who was a staff writer on the Disney Plus series. At this time, a production start date for Captain America 4 has not been announced.
As to be expected, Mackie will not be reprising his role as the Falcon now that Sam Wilson has retired from the role upon accepting the Captain America moniker.
