Amazon Freevee's new seriesTroppo adapts Candice Fox's mystery novel Crimson Lake, the first of a four-book series. Set in North Queensland, Australia, the storylines of Ted Conkaffey (Thomas Jane) and Amanda Pharrell (Nicole Chamoun) intersect, as the two form an unlikely bond while investigating a series of deaths.
Ted and Amanda's respective criminal histories come to light as well, which adds layers to the show's mystifying narrative. In addition to featuring Jane and Chamoun in its lead roles, Troppo also counts David Lyons and Sun Park among its cast.

Fox spoke with Screen Rant about the process of adapting Crimson Lake to a TV series.
Screen Rant: What was the most fascinating part of seeing this story come to life on screen?
Candice Fox: It was watching two people embody characters, embody people who aren't even real. They both went about that in their own way. Nicole studied the books really hard and spoke to me, and went deep into my childhood, and that kind of thing.
Thomas was the same. He wanted to know where was the spark of Ted and what is he up against in this novel. He was very detailed, focused about what he would wear, and what he would drive, and what he would drink, and this kind of thing. So, it was amazing. It was amazing to watch to people become two other people.
This story is as much about characters as it is about crime and mystery. As a writer, how did you manage balancing these personal narratives and the overarching plot, and what are your thoughts on how that was represented in the show?
