The mid-point of Destiny 2's Season 16 has come and gone, and Bungie is already setting the stage for the next step in the game's continuous evolution. There are many topics that the team wishes to discuss ahead of time, and Bungie does so through its This Week at Bungie (TWAB) blog posts, where the team goes in-depth on select topics.
DMG04, the Destiny 2 community manager, has now tweeted out that next week's TWAB will be one of the longest such blog posts yet, with the article going well beyond 5,000 words in one go. This is because next week's topic will be about weapon balancing and sandbox revisioning, with the developer discussing both buffs and nerfs.

«Team's jamming on some interesting changes,» said DMG04's Tweet about next week's TWAB. There's been no word on what exactly these changes may entail, but it's clear that the meta is likely to be shifted around. The Witch Queen DLC's best weapons might get overshadowed by something new by the time Season 17 hits, but old favorites could easily make a return as well. It all depends on where Bungie decides to take the game and which weapon archetypes they decide should be in the spotlight.
While the TWAB is highly unlikely to include any major content spoilers, the announced weapon sandbox changes may be affected by both new and returning content that's being prepared for Season 17. Specifically, it has been previously suggested that Season 17 would feature a new dungeon (ahead of Season 18's Destiny 1 raid) on top of regular seasonal content, and this could lead to old weapons making a comeback in Destiny 2 in some way.
