Director Maurice «Mo» Marable promises his reboot of Three Men and a Baby will be more diverse while still paying homage to the original. The original 1987 film, directed by Star Trek actor Leonard Nimoy, stars Steve Guttenberg, Tom Selleck, and Ted Danson as three New York bachelors whose lives are interrupted when they find themselves taking care of a baby that was left on their doorstep by one of their past girlfriends. Three Men and a Baby was a stellar success, raking in over $240 million at the box office, becoming Disney's first-ever live-action film to cross the $100 million mark. The film's success even saw a sequel with 1990s Three Men and a Little Lady.
The reboot of Three Men and a Baby was first announced in 2020, with Zac Efron set to star. The film was given a 2022 release date exclusively for Disney+, though the film likely won't debut this year as cameras are yet to roll. Marable signed on to direct the reboot at the start of 2022, with a script being penned by Will Reichel, whose only other writing credit is the 2018 Steve Coogan starring film Hot Air.

When asked about making a reference to the "ghost child cameo" in the original, Marable said he wanted to pay homage to the film, even having the 1987 cast back for cameos if possible.
