Bruce Campbell recently hinted that he’d love to reprise his role as Ash in a potential Evil Dead animated series. However, the project is facing one particularly gruelling challenge involving Sam Raimi.
Campbell made a name as his famous Deadite-fighting character Ash Williams, hero of the Evil Dead franchise that began in 1981 with the first film's release. Campbell has played his famous role on the big screen and small, through sequels, including Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness, and the Starz series Ash vs. the Evil Dead that wrapped in 2018. With a new film in the franchise titled Evil Dead Rise coming next month without the series’ famous protagonist, Campbell is excitedly discussing a potential animated series and reprising his voice role. There is only one problem--the popularity and busy schedule of Evil Dead creator Sam Raimi these days.

While discussions are open on an animated series, Campbell recently toldBloody Disgustingthat while Raimi is interested in making the Evil Dead project happen, he’s a really busy guy. “All I can say is we’re actively pursuing it. Sam’s a busy guy. He had a big hit movie, so he’s got a lot on his plate, but he and his brother are actively shaping out the world," Campbell said. «It’s one thing to get an animator and say, ‘Hey, animate this!’ You’ve got to know what you’re going to animate.”
Campbell has backed away from his famous Evil Dead role in the past decade, which he feels becomes more challenging to perform as he ages, with the series making high-energy demands on its cast with lots of combat action.
