Lionsgate has unleashed the final ahead of the video game adaptation’s theatrical bow next month.
The new Borderlands trailer shows off the starry cast and explains a little bit more of the plot in the process. It features a few scenes already in the previous trailer, but there’s still plenty for Borderlands fans to spot in this one. But if Eli Roth’s movie was trying to shut down the Guardians of the Galaxy comparisons, this trailer doesn’t help much.

The story of Borderlands sees a ragtag team of misfits embark on a mission to save a missing girl who holds the key to unimaginable power. It’s based on Gearbox’s best-selling shooter franchise, which has been around since 2009 and seen five major games released, including the 2022 fantasy-themed Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands.
The Lionsgate synopsis reads: “Lilith, an infamous outlaw with a mysterious past, reluctantly returns to her home planet of Pandora to find the missing daughter of the universe’s most powerful S.O.B., Atlas. Lilith forms an alliance with an unexpected team – Roland, a former elite mercenary, now desperate for redemption; Tiny Tina, a feral pre-teen demolitionist; Krieg, Tina’s musclebound, rhetorically challenged protector; Tannis, the scientist with a tenuous grip on sanity; and Claptrap, a persistently wiseass robot. These unlikely heroes must battle alien monsters and dangerous bandits to find and protect the missing girl, who may hold the key to unimaginable power. The fate of the universe could be in their hands, but they’ll be fighting for something more: each other.”
Borderlands stars Cate Blanchett (The Lord of the Rings), Kevin Hart (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle), Jack Black (The Super Mario Bros. Movie), Ariana Greenblatt, Florian Munteanu, and Jamie Lee Curtis (Halloween). It’s directed by Eli Roth (Hostel, Thanksgiving) and written by Craig Mazin (The Last of Us).
Borderlands rides into theaters on August 9, 2024.
