Booking a tatkal train ticket on IRCTC? Here’s how you can do it faster

Trying to book Tatkal train tickets on IRCTC? Many times, we have to book train tickets at the last moment and then Tatkal is the best option to get a confirmed ticket if the tickets are not available. A tatkal ticket is booked just a day before the journey. Do note that booking for 3AC and above class starts at 10 am while booking for Sleeper class starts at 11 am. And if you’re booking a tatkal ticket online on IRCTC, you must keep a few things in mind to book it faster.

1. To book a Tatkal ticket on IRCTC, you must have an IRCTC account. If you don’t have one, you can create one by visiting https://www.irctc.co.in website or IRCTC app.

2. Once the account is created, create a master list. You will find the master list option in the My Profile section and fill in the details like Name, Age, Gender, Birth Preference, Food Preference, Senior Citizen, ID Card Type and ID Card Number of the Passenger.

3. Add Passenger in the master list. You can save up to 20 passengers in the list.

4. Now, make a travel list in the drop down of My Profile and select the name of the passenger from the master list. And you’re all set to book Tatkal tickets.

To book a tatkal ticket for class 3AC or above, log in to the IRCTC website or app by 9.57 am and for sleeper class login by 10.57 hrs.

Next, select the names of the stations under the Plan My Journey tab and choose your travel date and finally submit. 

Now select the train that you want to travel from the suggested train list. Also choose from quota- General, Premium Tatkal, Ladies and Tatkal.

Next select coaches that you want to book a ticket for and head to enter the passengers’ details. Now, the master list will help you here by saving your time.
