The new season is underway, adding lots of content for players to unlock and level up. Most of the new weapons and cosmetics are found in the Season 2 battle pass, but some of the more exciting customization options, like 's new Slipstream perk, will be unlocked during one of the in-season events.
has already had some big mid-season events, notably the crossover event that brought in new operator skins, new game modes, a new melee weapon, and the controversial paid event pass. One of Season 2's events will be the returning crossover, but future events are going to have to do something different to get players excited.
Whether they have been a big-name crossover event like, or the regular CODMAS event in the winter, the events only require players to earn XP or complete basic challenges. December's Archie’s Festival Frenzy, for example, had an advent calendar-style rewards track that could be opened using «Archies» that players collected after eliminating an enemy in multiplayer, zombies, or Warzone — something everyone was already doing. The event didn't even have that level of complexity, only requiring players to earn XP while it was running.
Ranked Play has some changes coming in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Season 2, including new rewards you can earn in online multiplayer and Warzone.
As a result of the event's lack of complexity, players could complete the limited-time season pass without interacting with the new modes or maps, which made ' events feel less like events. Instead, they're just another way to lock away content to force players to play more.
Simple challenges make earning rewards easier, but don't engage players in new ways. For more generic events like CODMAS, missions can be simpler, but should still encourage players to play on winter-themed maps or do silly but easy things like throwing snowballs to progress through the event faster.
