A new set photo from Black Adam offers a close-up shot of an unmasked Atom Smasher in costume. Dwayne «The Rock» Johnson has been attached to play Black Adam since 2014. Earlier, the plan was for him to appear as a villain in David F. Sandberg's Shazam! movie, but ultimately WB and DC traded off those plans in favor of a solo film centered on the Man in Black. Due to various logistical issues, Black Adam has taken its time to get off the ground. Director Jaume Collet-Serra originally wanted to release the movie in 2021, but the COVID-19 pandemic interrupted his plans. However, the movie is finally on track for an October 2022 premiere, and earlier this week, WB also dropped the trailer for Black Adam.
As shown in the trailer itself, in addition to Johnson's ancient-Egyptian anti-hero, Black Adam will also introduce the Justice Society of America (JSA), a group of superpowered underdogs who believe in fighting for truth and equality. In Black Adam, Aldis Hodge is leading the JSA as Carter Hall/ Hawkman, while James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan is playing Kent Nelson/ Dr. Fate, one of the JSA's senior members. Among the junior JSA members are Quintessa Swindell as Maxine Hunkel / Cyclone, as well as Noah Centineo as Albert «Al» Rothstein (Atom Smasher). The Black Adam trailer did offer a quick look at Centineo's superhero, showing his powers as he manipulated his size to become larger. But fans were a bit discontent as Al was wearing a mask, so they couldn't catch a glimpse of Centineo. But now, a new photo will likely pacify disheartened fans.
