Ubisoft’s upcoming Beyond Good & Evil: 20th Anniversary Edition remaster will contain a “narrative link” to the long-in-development sequel.
According to Thursday’s announcement, the upgraded version of the 2003 action-adventure game will include a new treasure hunt in which players can discover more about protagonist Jade’s childhood through cosmetic rewards.
“This exclusive new mission also reveals more about the narrative link to Beyond Good & Evil 2, showing Ubisoft’s enduring commitment to the franchise,” Ubisoft said.
Beyond Good & Evil 20th Anniversary Edition will be available “on all platforms” on June 25.
Ubisoft first teased the sequel, Beyond Good and Evil 2, with a trailer way back in 2008. This was then followed by almost a decade of silence, before the game resurfaced at E3 2017, when the publisher revealed it would take the form of a prequel.
Ubisoft held a Beyond Good and Evil 2 live stream ahead of E3 2019, but the game did not appear at the show itself. The presentation revealed that a new, unnamed Ubisoft studio would be joining the five (Barcelona, Bordeaux, Mainz, Montpelier and Sofia) already working on the game.
It was announced in August 2020 that a feature film adaptation of Beyond Good and Evil was in the works at Netflix.
