Metrograph Pictures has released a for its French sci-fi thriller from Oscar-nominated director Jérémy Clapin.
Elsa (Megan Northam, in her debut feature starring role), along with her family, is struggling following the disappearance of her brother Franck, an astronaut who vanished during his first mission. While stargazing one night, Elsa is shocked to receive contact from Franck, but her joy is short-lived when she learns of the dark and troubling forces behind Franck’s reappearance, forcing her to confront the lengths she will go for the brother she once feared was gone forever.

Much like Clapin’s I Lost My Body, the trailer for Meanwhile on Earth makes it clear there will be another soulful look at grief and reunion through an unconventional lens.
Meanwhile on Earth is written and directed by Jérémy Clapin. It stars Megan Northam, Sofia Lesaffre (Infested), Catherine Salée (Blue is the Warmest Color), Sam Louwyck (The Wild Boys), Nicolas Avinée (Asteroid City), and Roman Williams.
Premiering at the Berlin International Film Festival back in February, Meanwhile on Earth (aka Pendant ce temps sur Terre) made its European theatrical bow in France on July 3, 2024.
Director Jérémy Clapin is best known for his 2019 animated Netflix movie I Lost My Body. The film is about Naoufel, a young man who is in love with Gabrielle. In another part of town, a severed hand escapes from a dissection lab, determined to find its body again.
The film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature but lost out to Toy Story 4. It did, however, win prizes elsewhere, including the César Awards, Annie Awards, LA Film Critics Association, and the Annecy International Animated Film Festival.
Meanwhile on Earth will be released in theaters on September 13, 2024.
