BBC Confirms Ncuti Gatwa As The Next Doctor
Ncuti Gatwa has been officially confirmed as the next Doctor, taking over from Jodie Whittaker in the BBC series, Doctor Who. Gatwa, who is best known for his role as Eric Effiong in Netflix's Sex Education, will play the fourteenth Doctor, and will appear in his own season next year.
The news has just been confirmed by the BBC, and ends months of speculation as to who will take up the iconic role next. It also unconfirms rumours that returning showrunner Russell T Davies was looking to bring back an old Doctor for the next season, and is instead keeping with the trend of hiring a fresh face.

Gatwa describes landing the role as an "honour", but equally daunting.
"This role and show means so much to so many around the world, including myself, and each one of my incredibly talented predecessors has handled that unique responsibility and privilege with the utmost care", Gatwa says. "I will endeavour my upmost to do the same. Russell T Davies is almost as iconic as the Doctor himself and being able to work with him is a dream come true."

Davies has also commented on the announcement, expressing his excitement for the new season.
"The future is here and it’s Ncuti!", Davies says. "Ncuti dazzled us, seized hold of the Doctor and owned those TARDIS keys in seconds. It’s an honour to work with him, and a hoot, I can’t wait to get started."
