David Tennant and Catherine Tate are returning to Doctor Who for the show's upcoming 60th anniversary special. Currently, Doctor Who is wrapping up the tenure of its 13th Doctor, played by Jodie Whittaker. When she regenerates in her upcoming farewell episode, Whittaker will be replaced by Ncuti Gatwa, who was only just announced as the 14th Doctor.
Doctor Who has lasted for as long as it has thanks in large part to regeneration since it's allowed the main character to carry on through a variety of actors. To celebrate the show's 50th anniversary, Doctor Who did just that with an adventure starring the 10th (Tennant) and 11th Doctor (Matt Smith). Now, for the upcoming 60th anniversary, Doctor Who seems set to do the same.
