Edgar Wright's Instagram posts spark speculation he will be directing an episode of Doctor Who. The English filmmaker rose to prominence due to his fast-paced, kinetic genre films, which feature his distinct visual flair defined by Steadicam tracking shots, dolly zooms, and whip-pan transitions. Wright is perhaps best known for his Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy, which includes Shaun of the Dead,Hot Fuzz, and The World's End. He's also written and directed Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Baby Driver, and most recently Last Night in Soho.
Over his career, Wright has also been a vocal fan of the long-running BBC sci-fi seriesDoctor Who. Years ago, he was offered the job to direct the very first episode of the revived series, titled «Rose,» which starred Christopher Eccleston, Billie Piper, and was written by Russell T. Davies during his initial stint as showrunner. However, Wright was unable to accept due to a prior engagement with Shaun of the Dead. Now, considering Davies' return as showrunner and Doctor Who recently announcing Sex Education's Ncuti Gatwa as the next Doctor, the stage could be set for Wright to finally direct an episode.
