BattleTech developer announces The Lamplighters League, a new turn-based tactics game
During the recent Paradox Announcement Show, publisher Paradox Interactive unveiled a new game by BattleTech developer Harebrained Schemes. This game, which goes by the full name The Lamplighters League and the Tower at the End of the World, comes with both turn-based tactical combat and a pulp story that takes place “in an alternate 1933.”
If you enjoyed 2018’s BattleTech and the studio’s other turn-based outings, you may want to give it some attention. As of right now, neither Paradox Interactive nor Harebrained Schemes have a concrete release date for The Lamplighters League. We only know that it will see a release on PC this year.
The story of The Lamplighters League has players contending with the Banished Court, a nefarious cult that, naturally, aims to take over the world. For the longest time, a group of valiant scholars, the titular Lamplighters League, has managed to thwart the Banished Courts schemes every time. The same holds true here, only this time, the Lamplighters League consists of goofy misfits who may not be best suited for such an important task.
In a press release, Christopher Rogers, The Lamplighters League‘s game director, discussed the creative freedom that comes with working on this title. For much of Harebrained Schemes’ run, the developer has made games set in pre-established IPs. But with The Lamplighters League, the developer now has an opportunity to truly flex its creative muscles. Specifically, the project grants Harebrained Schemes “the creative freedom to simultaneously create narrative that supports gameplay and gameplay that supports narrative.”
