Spoiler warning for The Joker #15
With the publication of The Joker's final issue, long-time Batman writer James Tynion IV says his final goodbye to mainstream Gotham. After an acclaimed Detective Comics run and over 30 issues on the main Batman title, Tynion's run on The Joker serves as his finishing touch to the stories he's told about Gotham and its many heroes and villains. This last issue ties up some long-running plot threads, and it also includes some touching moments for former Gotham police commissioner Jim Gordon that double as Tynion's last words to these beloved characters.
After writing the brood of Bat-characters (and other DC books) for years, Tynion announced last year he would be leaving the capes behind to focus on his creator-owned work. Tynion has had a major impact across the board at DC, but no other line has felt his influence like the Gotham books. After returning some fan-favorite characters—like Stephanie Brown and Cassandra Cain—to the DC Universe during the New 52 era, Tynion then began adding on to the Batman mythos. During his Batman run alone, Tynion—with co-creator Jorge Jiménez—debuted characters that have already changed the course of the Batman franchise: Ghost-Maker, Punchline, Miracle Molly, and on goes the list.

Most recently, Tynion has had his hands on the Joker and the Gordon family—especially (former) Commissioner Gordon.
