A new piece of fan art imagines Gotham’s Bat-Family united from various DC television and film properties, including Titans, Batgirl, and Batwoman, all united under Ben Affleck’s Batman from Justice League. First created in 1939, Batman has accumulated several allies and other supporting characters over the years, who have all come to be known as the extended Batman Family. Beginning with the introduction of Dick Grayson’s Robin in 1940, Bruce Wayne’s tenure as Gotham City’s Dark Knight has seen him inspire and mentor a wide range of younger characters, who all share a penchant for his unique style of vigilante justice.
Previously the big-screen portrayals of Batman have largely steered clear of exploring the extended Batman Family, and audiences have not seen a live-action cinematic iteration of either Robin or Batgirl since 1997’s Batman and Robin. Unlike DC’s big-screen properties, however, many of the DC universe’s television series have been more willing to represent these supporting characters by having them appear in both the Arrowverse’s Batwoman and Titans. A new The CW series Gotham Knights (which currently is slated for release in 2023) will also see characters such as Stephanie Brown and Carrie Kelly make their live-action television debut. Meanwhile, Warner Bros.’ DC film slate is shortly set to see Barbara Gordon’s Batgirl headline her own film destined for streaming release on HBO Max.
