Warning! Spoilers ahead for Batman: Beyond The White Knight #4
DC Comics' latest Batman Beyond story is showing how Terry McGinnis could be introduced into the DCEU without necessarily needing the original Dark Knight as a mentor. Set in an alternate timeline for Batman and Gotham City, Sean Murphy's White Knight universe is offering an engaging and dynamic story that effectively flips the script on Terry's origins as the Batman of the future, one where he never had Bruce Wayne as his teacher.
In the first few issues of Sean Murphy's new Batman: Beyond the White Knight series, Bruce Wayne's identity is publically known after Batman willingly outed himself and turned himself in for crimes committed in this alternate universe, one where the Gotham Terrorist Oppression Unit has been formed in conjunction with the GCPD which is compromised of Batman's former allies who make full use of the Dark Knight's discarded resources (particularly his Batmobiles). However, Derek Powers has taken over Wayne Tech in Bruce's absence, having recovered the experimental Beyond suit and recruited young Terry McGinnis to wear it as his agent.

While Powers was one of Batman Beyond's primary foes in the original cartoon, he's become Terry's mentor in this alternate timeline. Bruce Wayne's Batman has become Terry's main antagonist instead after he broke out of prison to become the Dark Knight once more, wanting to protect his legacy and prevent the dangerous prototype suit from harming Gotham.
