Like any fanbase, the Baldur's Gate 3 community has seen its fair share of discourse. One ongoing topic of debate is whether or not Gortash is a good-looking dude. And if he's not, why does the game tell us that he is in Act 1? Well, it looks like we finally have our answer.
John Corcoran, one of the writers on Baldur's Gate 3, just shared a meme that could explain why Gortash is described as a "handsome younger man", despite not exactly being conventionally attractive. Basically, when Corcoran wrote the line, he hadn't seen the concept art for Gortash. That would explain it.
This might be the funniest answer we could have gotten to one of the longest-running questions in the fandom - the person who wrote those words just hadn't seen him yet. It's amazing.
As for why this was never updated, perhaps Larian just felt that, compared to Orin and Ketheric, he is the youngest and more handsome character of the lot. It's hard to argue with that on the age front, but I do take issue with the looks - Orin and Ketheric are winning in that department, c'mon.
Still, his looks appeal to some fans, clearly. Or maybe it's that winning personality. Sorry, I'll stop being a hater. He has his fans, is all I'm trying to say, and I'm not in any position to judge (Orin defender here). In fact, this entire reveal came in response to fans asking for some Gortash kissing in the next Baldur's Gate 3 update, which is set to add more evil endings to the game.
Alas, Larian has confirmed that this will not be happening, so it looks like the game won't be getting the long-sought-after Dark Urge/Gortash romance. You'll have to make do with that (very) temporary alliance you can form with him towards the end of the game.
So, what will the next patch add? Judging from the brief look we've had at the new cutscenes, it looks like one of them will give us an extended look at what happens if we become the Absolute and control the world ourselves. Another seems to be exclusive to The Dark
