BG3 fans rejoice, we’re finally getting official mod support with Patch 7! Larian Studios announced in a community update that official mod support is coming to Baldur’s Gate 3, but before that, it’s getting a closed alpha and beta. Here’s how you can sign up to participate.
Arriving this September is Patch 7 of Baldur’s Gate 3 which’ll bring alongside official mod support for both PC and console. But before this arrives, Larian Studios is holding a closed alpha and beta for players to test out the official mod program. Currently, you won’t be able to sign up for the closed alpha that began on June 3, but you will get the chance to register for the closed beta in July.
The two testing phases of the BG3 official mod support program started with the closed alpha on June 3 as Larian Studios has invited mod authors to partake. Over this period, it will invite more mod authors to create and transfer existing mods with the BG3 toolkit to test it out. Unless you’re a BG3 mod creator you won’t be able to access the closed alpha.
During the second phase in July, Larian Studios will open registration for the closed beta which will be capped at around 1,000 players. This is for anyone who plays BG3 on PC to sign up to test the mods created during the alpha stage. You can assume that a registration link will pop up during a future community update in July, so keep your eyes peeled for that.
Then in September, Patch 7 will be released with the official mod support with the program called mod.io. This program will allow modding to support all platforms that BG3 can run on, so even console players can try out mods.
It’ll release first on PC, but shortly after Mac players and console players (PlayStation and Xbox) will gain access to mod.io. Now console players can access incredible mods such as the plethora of character creation mods already available.
