Baldur’s Gate 3 developer Larian Studios has revealed that the game will not be coming to Xbox alongside its release on PC and PS5 on August 31 because of technical issues.
Taking to Reddit, the Larian Studios community manager explained that the Xbox release is not being held back because of any potential exclusivity deal. Rather, the studio has been facing a few technical issues when it comes to getting Baldur’s Gate 3‘s split-screen co-op running on the console.
“There’s no platform exclusivity preventing us from releasing BG3 on Xbox day and date, should that be a technical possibility,” explained the community manager. “If and when we do announce further platforms, we want to make sure each version lives up to our standards & expectations.”
Baldur’s Gate 3 was announced for release on PS5 alongside its PC release earlier this week. The studio revealed some new gameplay footage alongside the PS5 announcement during the recent Sony State of Play. It will also feature cross-platform progression, as well as split-screen co-op on the console.
Currently available as an early access release on PC, Baldur’s Gate 3 will feature the voice of J.K. Simmons as General Ketheric Thorm.
