There’s two big announcements for those eagerly awaiting Baldur’s Gate 3, as the game’s release date has now been firmly set for 31st August 2023, and it’s also confirmed that this is for both PC, Mac and on console with PlayStation 5!
Up until this point, Baldur’s Gate 3 has been exclusively on PC – well, there was a whole Stadia thing, but honestly that doesn’t even remotely matter now, does it? – and with Larian Studios giving a more open August release window. It’s great to have the launch date narrowed down, and to see the game now coming to console as well.
Larian also confirmed several significant features. There will also be full split-screen co-op available with gamepad support on PC. Oh, and full cross-progression between PC, Mac and PS5, so you could, for example, take your adventure from console to Steam Deck!
The new release date reveal trailer – featuring J.K. Simmons as General Ketheric Thorm –gives a bit more world building for the dark fantasy RPG that you will face. The land of Faerûn is besieged by mind flayers from another world. Their army expands by infecting brains with parasitic tadpoles that turn their victims into one of their own. At the start of the game, you too are infected by one of these tadpoles, but as it starts to corrupt you, it also brings mysterious new powers.
