Baldur's Gate 3 has entered Early Access and one of the playable classes in this build is the Cleric. The player needs to select a god for their character to worship, which will likely tie into a separate mechanic in the full version of the game.

In Dungeons & Dragons, Clerics are granted their divine magical powers from the god they worship. The Cleric selects their Domain at level one, which dictates some aspects of the character, such as their bonus spells and abilities. Clerics will also choose a deity that they worship, which can be independent from Subclass.
Baldur's Gate 3 is currently in Early Access, so the list of gods and goddesses that you can choose as a deity may expand with future updates. Additionally, we may see deity selection expanded to other classes, which is likely in the case that Paladin gets added to the game.
