Babylon's Fall has finally been released for PlayStation and PC players. However, unfortunately for Square Enix and Platinum Games, it's not doing as well as both companies might have hoped.
Babylon's Fall is the newest offering from publisher Square Enix and developer by Platinum Games who previously brought fans titles like Bayonetta, Nier: Automata, and Vanquish. The game promises to bring Platinum's signature hack and slash combat into a multiplayer setting. The game was first announced back in 2018 at the E3 conference of that year, then brought back into the limelight at E3 2021.
Babylon's Fall Announces Limited Time Nier: Automata Collaboration Event
Despite any hype that might have surrounded Babylon's Fall when it was first announced, it's been off to a rough start at launch peaking at less than 650 concurrent players, according to VGC. It has only 18 reviews on Steam, all labeled as mixed. On Twitch, only 3,000 viewers are watching the game on the platform. Few reviews of the game are out but most of them have been negative, especially from journalists and reviewers. Games journalist Jeff Gerstmann, a veteran from Giant Bomb was even quoted saying the game feels «low rent» and “I’m having trouble thinking of a full-price video game that has made a worse first impression on me than Babylon’s Fall."
This comes after the launch of Marvel's: The Avengers peaked at 28,000 leading to a failure, and Outriders peaking at 125,000. With all the success Square Enix and Platinum Games has had in the past, it could be dwindling with the impending failure of Babylon's Fall.
