Avatar: The Way of Water's teaser trailer may have revealed Stephen Lang's villainous Colonel Miles Quaritch's return in the form of a Na'vi. The much-anticipated sequel, set to release in December, will hit theaters 13 years after the first film. The off-screen lapse in time, however, is matched on-screen as Avatar 2's timeline is set more than a decade after the original, with Jake Sully and Neytiri bearing children and a growing family in Pandora.
James Cameron himself has noted that the sequel and franchise as a whole will include a host of the most notable characters from Avatar. Although Avatar 2's trailer shies away from revealing said characters, viewers are shown what is undoubtedly Miles Quaritch as a Na'vi. Revealed in multiple shots alongside Matt Gerald's Corporal Lyle Wainfleet, their return to the fold as Na'vi is surprising for a multitude of reasons but is certainly not out of the realm of possibility. It has been known for some time that Quaritch would return in the sequel and the films that follow, but Cameron has been reluctant to reveal how.

There has been no official confirmation that the two Na'vi soldiers in Avatar 2's trailer are indeed Quaritch and Wainfleet, however, the resemblance is uncanny. Both soldiers are devoid of dialogue in the trailer, making the audible link uncertain. However, the new Na'vi certainly look like the formerly human soldiers. Wainfleet's familiar pouted lips and shaved head are clear to see on one of the Na'vi soldiers, whereas the secondary soldier bears characteristics that are reminiscent of Quaritch.
