Assassin's Creed 2 introduces you to a brash young Florentine named Ezio Auditore. Then over the rest of the game and throughout Brotherhood, you see him grow into a Master Assassin. By Revelations, he's a wise and grizzled old killer whose experience makes up for the fact that he's not a young man anymore.

Going into Revelations, you'd be forgiven for thinking that Ezio's days were numbered. After all, not many people in his line of work reach retirement age. But when the game comes to a close, he's still among the living, and he's settling down with Sofia Sartor. So many fans of the series desperately wondered how he eventually perished?
As shown in Assassin's Creed Embers and the Revelations novel, Ezio eventually retired from the Brotherhood. He and Sofia got married and had a couple of kids. The forrer Assassin spent his final years running a Vineyard in the Italian countryside with his family. Not all was perfect, though, as Ezio was ill. It wasn't clear what the exact sickness was, but he had to deal with a cough and occasional shortness of breath.
Despite his weakening physical condition, he still ended up helping the Brotherhood again when Chinese Assassin Shao Jun came to visit him. After some initial reluctance, he agreed to teach her some things she could use to help her own homeland.

However, Chinese Imperial Soldiers were on Jun's tail, and a group of them ended up attacking the Vineyard. The two Assassins successfully defended the place from the invaders in what was likely Ezio's last major battle. It was certainly the final time he assisted the Assassins.
