If you've played Sea of Thieves, you'll have seen Captain Flameheart. He's hard to miss. When you're sailing the seven seas at night, you'll regularly clash with ghost ships sporting crews of green-hued, skeletal undead, but in the sky, there's often a giant red flaming skull with a beard and pirate's hat. That's Flameheart. And we're going to find out more about him in an all-new novel.
It's called Heart of Fire, a fitting title given that it's the name of a Tall Tale from 2020 that saw us confronting Flameheart in his lair. It's here that he plots with Stitcher Jim to sick the Ashen Lords on the Sea of Thieves, inciting a bloody naval war. Aside from that, we know he has an adoptive son and, obviously, he wasn't always a decrepit skeleton. The novel is touted as an origin story for Sea of Thieves, so we should find out plenty about what was going on before we sailed onto the scene.

It's set to release on August 16, 2022, for $15.95. Heart of Fire is a collaborative work between Titan Books and developer Rare, penned by author Chris Allcock. He wrote the Sea of Thieves novel Athena's Fortune and The Art of Borderlands 3. You can buy the novel on release either physically or as an eBook.
In the Hearts of Fire novel, the Pirate Lord recruits the Morningstar to take down Flameheart and his own fleet, the Burning Blade. To do this, they set out on an epic quest to find an artifact that can stop him once and for all. Although, with it being an origin story, we evidently know that his reign of terror doesn't end quite that soon.
