Sandshrew and its Alolan form are the featured creatures for Pokémon GO Community Day in March 2022. Every month in Pokémon GO, a new Pokémon is featured and has its spawn rate increased for a limited time. The March 2022 Community Day will take place on Sunday, March 13, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time. The thing that makes this Community Day so interesting is that it technically increases the spawn rate for two Pokémon at a time. However, both of these Pokémon can use the same candy when powering up.
Sandshrew initially debuted in Pokémon Red and Blue as one of the series premiere's Ground-type Pokémon. Several years later, with the release of Pokémon Sun and Moon, new regional variants were added, creating more realistic takes on how the environment can affect certain Pokémon. In the case of Sandshrew, it turned this Ground-type Pokémon into an Ice-type. Both Sandshrew and Alolan Sandshrew will have their spawn rates increased, and trainers will have an increased chance of encountering their Shiny forms. It's important for players to prepare to make the most out of this timed event.

To fully take advantage of the March Community Day in Pokémon GO, trainers should try to capture at least six Shiny Pokémon, three of the original Sandshrew, and three of its Alolan form. The Pokédex keeps track of which Shiny Pokémon the trainer has captured so far. While there's no real change in their statistic ability, the odds of finding them are increased from 1/500 to 1/25. While this event does last for six hours, players should aim to catch at least six of these at a minimum. Any more can be used for future trades.
