With the release of a new raid in Dragonflight Patch 10.1 comes a slew of new weapons, armors, items, and trinkets, some of which may look familiar to veteran players. One such weapon is Ashkandur, Fall of the Brotherhood, a two-handed sword reminiscent of both Ashkandi, Greatsword of the Brotherhood from Blackwing Lair and Reclaimed Ashkandi, Greatsword of the Brotherhood from Blackwing Descent! From what we've seen on the PTR, the sword appears to drop from the 8th boss of the raid, though we've actually datamined six different color variants rather than the four expected from LFR, Normal, Heroic, and Mythic difficulty.
Instead, each appears to be related to one of the five dragonflights, plus a mysterious sixth. Given that Blizzard's initial reveal described the dragon-themed weapons and armor as being related to outdoor content, it's likely some of the appearances will come from other activities.
In Blizzard's concept art preview, Senior Character Artist Thomas Yip cited drawing inspiration from BWL weapons like Ashkandi, Greatsword of the Brotherhood, which fits as the hilts have very similar designs, while the blade of Ashkandur instead looks closer to that of Reclaimed Ashkandi, Greatsword of the Brotherhood from Blackwing Descent!
Black Dragon Outdoor Weapon Concept — Thomas Yip – Senior Character Artist These weapon concepts work in tandem with the awesome dragon infused armor designs that Paul Lam created for the Black Dragon outdoor theme. I also drew much inspiration from the bold shape language of Ashkandi and Crul'shorukh from the Blackwing Lair raid.Developing ideas for this theme was a great opportunity to combine classic sensibilities with a flash of contemporary flair. Sharp and dangerous!.
