Netflix has cast Asa Butterfield and four more actors to headline, an upcoming psychological thriller series from Julie Gearey.
Per Variety, Out of the Dust’s cast includes Butterfield (Sex Education) as Adam, Molly Windsor (The Runaways) as Rosie, Fra Free (Hawkeye) as Sam, Siobhan Finneran (Happy Valley) as Mrs. Phillips, and Christopher Eccleston (The Leftovers) as Mr. Phillips.
In a fictional religious cult, Rosie’s life as a wife and mother is turned upside-down when she meets Sam, an escaped convict. Rosie embarks on a journey of self-discovery and female emancipation. However, Rosie’s sexual awakening threatens her old way of life.
“Out of the Dust follows Rosie, who lives in a cloistered Christian community with her husband, Adam, and their daughter. The fateful arrival of the mysterious Sam, an escaped prisoner, reveals the reality and restraints of Rosie’s world,” Netflix’s synopsis reads. “Perhaps her hidden religious community doesn’t have her best interests at heart. As the cracks begin to appear in Rosie and Adam’s marriage, Sam presents as Rosie’s savior. But with his dark criminal past, where does the greatest danger lie — with the cult, or with Sam?”
Out of the Dust is written, created, and executive produced by Gearey. A television veteran, Gearey is best known for creating Intergalactic and Prisoners Wives.
Filming has begun in the U.K. with Philippa Langdale (A Discovery of Witches) and Jim Loach (Criminal Records). Iona Vrolyk and Myar Craig-Brown are executive producing for Double Dutch Productions. Nick Pitt is listed as a producer.
