We’re just weeks away from Apple introducing the iPhone 15, and the rumor mill is buzzing about what Cupertino might have in store for us this year.
In his weekly PowerOn newsletter, Sunday Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman ran through some of what we can expect from the newest iPhone, a lot of it we've heard before.
One of the biggest updates will be that we’re finally going to say farewell to the notch in favor of a Dynamic Island on the standard iPhone 15.
Gurman says that the iPhone Pro and Pro Max displays will all be made with a technology dubbed LIPO by Apple employees, low-injection pressure over-molding. That technology is what’s currently used in the Apple Watch and is going to allow the phone to have a smaller border (shrinking to 1.5 millimeters from 2.2 on current phones).
Gurman says that the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will have a similar look to the current models; however, they’ll charge via USB-C rather than Apple’s proprietary Lightening connector.
Much like updates in the past, the new phones will also have an improved camera including updated lenses and an improved optical zoom on the Pro model.
The iPhone 15 is expected to use the same A16 processor as the current model; however, it will be a 3-nanometer chip, which will be noticeably faster.
Apple is reportedly planning to ship around 85 million iPhone 15 units, on par with its iPhone 14 shipments last year.
There’s also a chance that this year’s phones might be more expensive than last year’s models.
According to Barclays analyst Tim Long this week(Opens in a new window), Apple might be adding $100-$200 to the base price for the phone to cover the cost of new features.
The iPhone 15 is expected to debut at a yet-to-be-announced Apple event in September.
