Many of the mechanics and systems of are deliberately not told to you as you play, making it hard to find and use important items like Firecrackers. Some enemies cannot be beaten until you obtain Firecrackers during your early adventures within the game. One of the first bosses in the game is the Blue Ghost, a spectral figure who can easily defeat your character if you aren't careful. Without any means of fighting this spiritual enemy, you have no choice but to run away. However, the Firecrackers that could be used to defeat the Ghost are found in the room exiting the top left corner of the boss' location that you can reach by jumping on some ledges quickly.
The Blue Ghost is a difficult enemy to avoid, so you want to use whatever jumping or movement features in you have unlocked to get behind the boss and try to reach the room with the Firecrackers.
The room beyond the boss has three yellow buttons you have to press to reveal where the Firecrackers are. The first one is directly below a ledge to your right as you enter, but the second is on a higher platform in the top right corner. To get to the second button, you have to use a crank in the room to pull a platform from the water, giving you the surface you need to jump to the button.
