AMD Ryzen 8000 “Granite Ridge” Desktop CPUs To Feature Up To 16 Zen 5 Cores & 170W TDP

AMD is readying its Ryzen 8000 "Granite Ridge" Desktop CPU lineup for 2024 which will offer the brand new Zen 5 core architecture.

Based on the latest information by Moore's Law is Dead, it looks like AMD is going to offer the same amount of cores and TDP on its next-generation desktop CPUs. Previously, MLID has also covered the AMD Ryzen 8000 APU roadmap but this time, the focus is purely on the Ryzen 8000 Desktop CPU lineup.

Starting with the details, the information is part of a server roadmap that shows several Zen 5-based offerings including Granite Ridge. The Granite Ridge CPU family mentioned here should be an embedded lineup rather than the standard desktop parts. Do remember that just like AMD's Ryzen 5000 Embedded chips, the Ryzen 8000 Embedded CPUs should also feature support on a socketed platform.

However, unlike the embedded lineup, the AMD Ryzen 8000 "Granite Ridge" Desktop CPU family will appear much earlier than the embedded parts. It is expected that the actual launch of these chips might be scheduled for the first half of 2024 which does sound a little bit optimistic since it has been less than a year since the launch of Zen 4 and AMD mostly does a 2-year cycle between launches. With that said, it looks like TSMC's 3nm process node is said to be doing great though it cannot be confirmed if Granite Ridge retains 4nm or goes with 3nm. Recent reports have shown that major tech players might wait on 3nm until the end of 2024 or even 2025.
