Players got their first look at Age of Mythology: Retold, Microsoft and World’s Edge’s upcoming remaster of beloved real-time strategy game, Age of Mythology.
Age of Mythology is a fantasy spinoff of Age of Empires originally released in 2002 by Ensemble Studios. The remaster was first revealed all the way back in 2022 and not much in the way of news has developed since that original announcement. The Age of Empires series has seen a resurgence in popularity in recent years, with Microsoft dedicating resources to a variety of ports, remasters, and even the release of a new game in the series with Age of Empires IV.
Revealed during a segment on this week’s Age of Empires New Year, New Age livestream, art director Melinda Rose showed off the game’s brand new 3D character models and animation using augmented reality. Players got a detailed look at models for units such as Medusa, Pegasus, and Cerberus, in particular. It was also noted that character models will change in appearance as players upgrade their units.
Wrapping up the segment, the team revealed the game’s keyart and announced that Age of Mythology: Retold will release simultaneously on PC and Xbox later this year.
