Sony's PS5 price hike is largely unprecedented in the industry. Citing supply and global inflation issues, Sony recently announced it was raising the price of the PS5 in several countries around the world. The United States is excluded, but the price hike differs from location to location. For Japanese fans, any PS5 bought now comes with a 20% markup from its original retail value. This no doubt seriously impacts anyone who has yet to get hands on the PS5, as they are still difficult to get heading into its third fall/holiday season.
This also no doubt impacts games fans want to play and where they can play them, like Final Fantasy 16. As reported by Gamesradar, Final Fantasy 16 trended on Twitter in Japan following the announcement, with fans calling on Square Enix to bring it to PC.

Some fans called for it to release on Steam, while others pointed toward the Epic Games Store, but the general message is clear:Final Fantasy 16 fans want the game on a PC platform they don't have to pay an increased price for. Many also lament how this change in price is also likely to stop them from playing the game, as having the funds and acquiring the console have become much more difficult. Many have compared such a move to the PC port ofFinal Fantasy 7 Remake, which makes sense though it's worth noting that it came out much later than the base game, and a few others are calling for a PS4 release to counter this, which is even more unlikely than PC availability at launch.
