A behind-the-scenes teaser for Rebel Moon, produced by Netflix and directed by Zach Snyder, shows off new footage, interviews with the cast, and glimpses at the technical aspects of the film's production.
The footage includes fragments of Rebel Moon's various set pieces including a battle in a burning village and a gunfight with dozens of armed military men, as well as its more mundane moment like a farmer cutting down wheat in the sunset. The prop production and storyboards are also briefly displayed. While there is plenty of green screen, much of the footage shows extensive, outdoor sets as well as crew using smoke machines, filming real explosions, and flashing lights to mimic laser fire.
In the teaser, Snyder said, «This movie for me existed elementally for 20 years. It's a story of a few against many, impossible odds, good versus evil. I get a chance to tell the story that I've thought about for quite a while.» Multiple actors discussed the rigorous training involved. Charlie Hunnam said, «I hadn't quite anticipated the physical requirements of this,» while Sofia Boutella said «I've never trained that much.» The teaser concludes with a clip of imposing ships landing in a rural farming community.
In a Star Wars inspired riff on Seven Samurai, Rebel Moon follows Kora (Sofia Boutella) as she gathers fighters to protect a small village from a tyrannical empire. Snyder has confirmed that the film is receiving an open world tie-in game. Rebel Moon will release on Netflix on December 22.
