For the first time since it launched in 2020, the streaming service Peacock is getting a price increase. Membership rates are going up from $5/month to $6/month for the Premium plan and from $10/month to $12/month for Premium Plus.
The price hikes goes into effect on August 17 for existing members. New subscribers will have to pay the increased prices right away. The price increases were first reported on by Deadline. Yearly membership rates going forward are $60/year for Premium and $120/year for Premium Plus.
Peacock had 22 million subscribers as of March 31, but parent company NBC Universal will announce new subscriber numbers during its next earnings report later this month.
The Premium plan comes with all of Peacock's original shows and movies, as well as live sports, with ads. The Premium Plus plan has all of that with almost no ads, the ability to download shows, and local NBC channels.
Price increases are normal and expected for subscription services, as Netflix, Prime, and Starz, have all raised prices in recent times, but this is the first-ever price increase for Peacock.
The price hike for Peacock comes just days before The Super Mario Bros. Movie comes to the streaming service on August 3. It is 2023's highest-grossing movie, and its release on Peacock is sure to help grow subscribers and engagement for the streaming service.
