The second wave of Super Mario Movie toys have dropped, and the quality of wave 2 is on par with that in wave one. We saw these at Target in the United States while on vacation, and apparently they are super popular because there were only a few left in total. Thankfully, we have them, so let’s take a look.
Each figure in the Wave 2 sets all come with an accessory like the original. Cat Mario comes with a question mark block, Peach comes with a blue Shell, Kamek comes with a wand, and Tanooki Mario comes with a Tanooki leaf. All are pretty cool, but obviously Kamek’s wand (necessary to make Kamek, well, Kamek) and Peach’s blue shell are the highlights.
The Tanooki leaf that Tanooki Mario is holding is pretty lackluster. The acrylic eyes make a comeback, and while many people found these eyes unsettling, I thought they were pretty damn cool. On the shelf, these figures look amazing.
The Princess Peach character in her racing suit is the odd person out here for me. While I found the original Peach figure too rigid and lackluster for my kids to play with, the new Peach figure doesn’t seem to match the aesthetic of all the figures released so far. I would have liked to see the Peach figure be a bit more chunky, perhaps
