Sony is hosting advanced screenings of the Gran Turismo movie for PS Plus subscribers, but only at select cinemas. A promotional email sent out to UK members includes a link to reserve tickets on 8th August at various Showcase, Vue, and Cineworld theatres across the country, a day ahead of the film’s British release on 9th August. The US release will follow on 11th August. It looks like there’ll be showings in Birmingham, Manchester, Cardiff, Bristol, and Sheffield – among others.
Obviously you still have to pay for the tickets – this isn’t a freebie like other PS Plus perks. It looks like there are only single showings, too, so we assume once the theatres are filled, you’re out of luck. We had a brief browse at Birmingham’s Star City, however, and it looked like there were still plenty of seats left, so there’s probably not enormous demand for this opportunity.
We’ll contact Sony and see if it’s offering a similar promotion across Europe and the rest of the world. Either way, it does feel like the marketing is beginning to ramp up for this movie now, after a fairly low-key build-up over the past few months. Are you planning to watch this one when it rolls out? Buckle up in the comments section below.
A true PlayStation veteran, Sammy's covered the world of PS gaming for years, with an enormous Trophy count to prove it. He also likes tennis games way more than you.
I live quite a distance from the nearest participating cinema. It'll take me longer to get there than it will to watch the film.
