New screenshots were shared online today for Ys X: Nordics, the next entry in the action role-playing game series by Nihon Falcom, showcasing the game's main characters and the new Cross Action combat mechanics, which promise to spice up the experience quite a bit.
The new screenshots, which can be found below, showcase not only series' protagonist Adol Christin but also the Pirate Princess Carja Varta, who will accompany him on this new adventure. The screenshots also provide a new look at the Ys X: Nordics Cross Action combat mechanics that will allow players to control either Adol or Carja or both simultaneously. By alternating the speed-focused Solo Mode and the offense-oriented Combination Mode to counter attacks with lightning-quick dodges and sturdy guards, players will be able to take down the many enemies they will encounter in their journey. Additional information on these mechanics can be found on Gematsu.
Ys X: Nordics, like some previous entries in the series, will be set in the past, right after the first two games. The decision to have a younger Adol as main character, according to Falcom president Toshiro Kondo, was made to better appeal to the Nintendo Switch userbase. The game will also come with naval gameplay features that will further expand the experience in some interesting ways.
Ys X: Nordics is now in development for PlayStation consoles and Nintendo Switch, and will launch in Japan later this year. A Western release has yet to be officially confirmed, but it's likely the game will eventually launch in North America and Europe as well, as all recent entries in the series did make it to Western shores.
