Successful Twitch and YouTube content creators are known for spending their earnings on sometimes enviable things, usually super powerful PC rigs, fancy cars, extravagant houses, or generous philanthropic endeavors. A February 2022 study estimated how much money Twitch streamers earn per hour and, while most of the top earners sit comfortably around the $800 per hour mark, a couple pass a jaw-dropping $2,000 per hour.
Sometimes the things content creators spend their money on aren’t necessarily practical, but are perhaps more fun. There’s the YouTuber who commissioned a replica of Cloud Strife’s Buster Sword, which weighed an unwieldy 50 pounds and required the additional purchase of an exoskeleton for $900 to help manage the load. A couple of years ago, another YouTuber rented a billboard outside of Treyarch’s offices in Santa Monica, CA, to campaign for a remaster of the Die Rise map from Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. That was paid for with the help of GoFundMe, which raised $5,000.

Few PC gamers, even content creators with perhaps a bit of extra cash lying around, can claim to have a cooler gaming setup than Thai YouTuber Bankii. A devoted fan of Cloud Imperium Games’ space trading and combat sim Star Citizen, Bankii shelled out $30,000 to construct a gaming room designed to resemble the game's Crusader Hercules spaceship.
