Warning! Spoilers ahead forYoung Sheldon season 5, episode 16.
Sheldon's (Jim Parsons) original reason for dating Amy (Mayim Bialik) on The Big Bang Theory has been retconned by Young Sheldon. After appearing in the Young Sheldon season 4 premiere, Amy returns to the spin-off as she helps her husband discuss certain elements that affect a relationship. Inadvertently, however, their back-and-forth reveals a new detail that essentially debunks Sheldon's initial intention when he started seeing his then-future wife.
The Big Bang Theory had already been on the air for three years when Amy was introduced at the end of season 3 as a potential love interest for Sheldon. The next year, she was brought in as a series regular as the sitcom developed their relationship further. Aside from the fact that they clicked right away, one of the other reasons why Sheldon wanted to date Amy was because he was convinced that combining their genes will make intellectually superior babies. Unfortunately, that may not be the case.
