In a new story, Star Wars has revealed Yoda was Darth Vader's greatest — and dumbest — failure. The Clone Wars were the ultimate Jedi trap, designed to scatter the Jedi across the galaxy and wear them down with a relentless tide of conflict. That came to a head with Order 66, when Palpatine commanded clone troopers to turn on the Jedi. With the Jedi defeated, Palpatine declared himself Emperor and set about consolidating his power.
Palpatine never really feared rebellion. He knew he had created a system where anyone who opposed the Empire would be forced to do so with actions rooted in the dark side, meaning even rebels unwittingly contributed to the dominance of the dark side and the continued rule of the Sith. There was only one potential threat; the return of the Jedi. Thus Palpatine commanded Darth Vader and his Inquisitors to scour the galaxy, seeking out Order 66 survivors and ensuring the light of the Jedi was snuffed out completely. Darth Vader failed; he missed several Jedi, including Master Yoda, his former mentor Obi-Wan Kenobi, and even his own former apprentice Ahsoka Tano. But Charles Soule and Steven Cummings' Star Wars: Crimson Reign #3 reveals the greatest of these failures was Master Yoda.

The issue stars the Archivist, an agent of Crimson Dawn tasked to locate Master Yoda. She knew Yoda had been present on Coruscant after Order 66, although she was unaware he had dueled Darth Sidious in the Senate Chamber.
